September 27-31, 2019

For over forty years Madre Grande Monastery has been a sacred site for teaching, healing, ceremony, and celebration.  Thousands of people following many positive spiritual paths have visited the land and felt the deep joy and wonder of our shared human experience on Earth.  Most activities have taken place in the valley near the Monastery facilities, and only a few adventurous and hearty souls have ventured to climb the Mother Mountain, to listen to her profound and inspiring wisdom and power.

This September we are offering an opportunity to connect with the land by joining a group of intrepid spiritual seekers.  We will be hiking up the mountain for a collective and personal contact with the Great Mother.

Participants may arrive on Thursday and camp in the valley, but should plan to arrive on Friday morning at the latest.  On Friday around noon we will form a circle of community and sharing, and then begin to ascend the mountain together. After taking a detour to visit natural springs and rock caves, we will continue to climb to the Mountain Camp on a middle ridge.  We will then hike to the peak for a brief ceremony before returning to Mountain Camp for dinner, discussions, rhythms, and rest.

On Saturday morning each person will explore the mountain on their own, finding a special place that calls to them.  Here they will spend the night, the next day, and Sunday night alone and have a personal conversation with the Great Mother through prayer, meditation, ceremony, or whatever method or practice they choose.

On Monday morning we will gather back at Mountain camp for breakfast, and then descend the mountain together.   We will form a closing circle to share our stories and integrate our experience into our daily lives.

Participants need to be in reasonably good health and provide and carry their own camping gear and most of their food for the weekend.  Food will be provided, and a camp stove and cooking utensils will be available on the mountain at base camp.  Water will also be available at base camp.
The climb is moderately strenuous, rising one thousand feet from the valley to the peak.  We will follow a cleared trail at an easy pace.  Some sections are rather steep and footing awkward, but no special gear or skills are required.  A complete list of necessary equipment and further details will be provided upon registration.

Listening To Our Mother is a new program at Madre Grande, and we are offering the entire weekend experience for a suggested donation of $100-$200.  The program is limited to twelve participants, so please make a donation in advance to reserve your place.  If you feel called to participate but can't afford the suggested donation, a scholarship to cover the cost may be available.  Please contact us for information.
